Weedbuster

These are professional electronic units designed to destroy Blanket Weed and other Chlorophyta.

The way they work is quite complicated.The Weed Buster range has been gradually improved over the years but essentially they “condition” the water by creating an electric current which carries with it a carefully selected range of low frequency radio (square) waves. These act in a similar way to electronic water conditioners (Read Goldsworthy’s article on this subject) and affect the Calcium and Carbonate ions, which are in solution in the water.

There is an additional range of frequencies, which cause “harmonics” in the water, and this is to overcome the immunity, which this type of product causes in Blanket Weed. The effect of the square waves is to destabilise the equilibrium of the Calcium and Carbonate ions in the water such that free calcium ions are leached from all cell surfaces to combine with free carbonate ions. The hole left in the cell surface then absorbs another free calcium ion, which on entering the cell causes it to increase in metabolism.

This has a specific effect on Blanket Weed since because it has a very large surface area to volume ratio actually absorbs more free Calcium than other animals and plants causing it to over-metabolise. The result is a “burst” growth followed by the weed collapsing either completely or almost completely.

TREATMENT ADVICE:
It is suggested that a dual approach be used by firstly introducing GREEN LIGHTNING INSTANT or GREEN LIGHTNING PLUS and at the same time installing a WEEDBUSTER. The combined effect is to enhance the overall performance of the GREEN LIGHTNING (or other proprietary Blanket Weed killer) creating a situation where much less of it is required.
